Summer is sadly slipping away. The days are getting shorter, the cicadas are making a lot of noise and there's even crisper air in the evening.

Another clear sign is that the fields of high schools and colleges are full of football, soccer and field hockey players and cross-country runners as preseason training camps get under way. It's a time of year I recall with gratitude and some reflection.

Representative Saylor discusses the Pennsylvania budget and state spending. He also comments on the PA State System of Higher Education, which he says “needs to get their house in order,” as well as stresses the importance of school safety and security.

Representative Saylor, state representative for the 94th Legislative District, York County, was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1992. Now in his 13th term, Representative Saylor serves as Chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee for the 2017-18 session.

GOP dodges bumps on way to midterms

On the seemingly endless road to Nov. 6 and the pivotal midterm elections, the 100-day marker is now in the rear-view mirror.

The dog days of summer will slowly give way to the traditional starting date for the fall campaigns, and the battle lines for control of Congress are clear.
